The Network Committee actively researches companies in particular areas and seeks out facilities professionals, both members and non-members, and invites them to regularly-held meetings for the purpose of networking, marketing and education.
To establish a Network Group, define an area that is unique. That uniqueness might be an area that is growing rapidly, has a particular type of industry, or is separated by distance or culture.
Identify companies that are large enough (50-100 employees) or growing fast enough, to justify a facilities role. Research area Chambers of Commerce, business journals and newspapers. Cold-call companies to find the person handling facilities, introduce IFMA and the local networking group, and ask to add them to the mailing list. Maintain a mailing and/or e-mail list, separated by members and non-members. Update it once or twice a year by cross-referencing with the Chapter's Membership list, by calling the non-members, and by researching new companies and their facilities professionals.
Schedule meetings that are casual and informal, but held regularly, on a day of the month that does not conflict with Chapter Meetings. The focus of the meetings is to network, to bring facilities professionals with much in common together. Meetings can be held a various local facilities and may include lunch or breakfast, a tour of the facility, and/or a very short presentation. Rules are lax, membership is not required, and the cost are kept to a minimum and covered by attendees. A network group is a casual, but very effective, introduction to the Denver Chapter and to the International Association at Large.
