Who We Are & What You’ll Do
Denver International Airport (DEN) is the third-busiest airport in the United States and one of the top ten busiest airports in the world, connecting our community globally through flight and business. DEN is the primary economic engine for Colorado, generating more than $47.2 billion annually and employing nearly 40,000 people. At DEN, we are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. We celebrate individuality and uplift all races, ethnicities, gender identities, national origins, ages, abilities, religions, and LGBTQIA+ communities. We know that our diversity makes us stronger, and we strive to keep diversity, equity and inclusion at the center of all that we do.
Denver International Airport (DEN) is seeking a seasoned HVAC Superintendent to join our Facility Management Team! The HVAC Manager serves as a strategic leader and team builder responsible for developing, coaching, and sustaining a high-performing HVAC workforce within Denver International Airport’s mission-critical facilities environment. This role is accountable not only for technical execution, but for building a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement across Service Call, Preventive Maintenance (PM), and Corrective Maintenance (CM) operations. The successful candidate will lead and develop a team of skilled technicians while ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, and lifecycle management of DEN’s multi-facility HVAC and Building Automation Systems (BAS), including oversight of our 20,000-ton / 200 MBH Central Utility Plant.
Specifically, as the HVAC Manager, you will:
• Provide strategic leadership and vision for HVAC operations, ensuring alignment with DEN’s long-term goals, aging infrastructure needs, and predictive maintenance strategies.
• Provide leadership and direction for all HVAC operations at DEN, including maintenance programs, Building Automation Systems (BAS), and the Central Utility Plant (CUP), ensuring these areas work cohesively to deliver reliable, efficient service across the airport.
• Drive team development and organizational effectiveness, fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and succession planning across all levels.
• Ensure operational excellence in preventive and corrective maintenance programs, service delivery to tenants/customers, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
• Lead financial planning and budget management, including forecasting, cost analysis, and business-case development for HVAC initiatives and capital projects.
• Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to assess HVAC impacts, prioritize resources, and remove operational barriers while maintaining a high-level project management perspective.
• Champion innovation and continuous improvement, leveraging data analytics, KPIs, and performance metrics to optimize systems and processes.
• Establish and enforce policies, standards, and procedures for HVAC operations, BAS integration, and CUP performance to ensure consistency and efficiency.
• Serve as the primary subject matter expert and liaison, providing concise, data-driven updates and recommendations to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
We are seeking a leader who is equally comfortable in the mechanical room as they are the boardroom — translating complex operational data into actionable strategies, developing future supervisors and leads, and aligning daily maintenance execution with long-term asset management and capital planning objectives.
In addition, our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
• 5+ years of leadership experience managing HVAC operations or large-scale facilities, including Central Utility Plant and Building Automation Systems.
• Proven success building and developing teams, demonstrated through measurable improvements in engagement, productivity, or succession planning.
• Strong technical background in HVAC systems and BAS controls, with ability to apply data analytics for performance optimization and predictive maintenance.
• Experience managing budgets, including forecasting, cost analysis, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
• Professional certification such as IFMA (or equivalent), with demonstrated knowledge of industry best practices and facility management standards.
• Proficiency with CMMS platforms (e.g., Maximo) and a data-driven approach to monitoring KPIs and operational trends.
Required Minimum Qualifications
• Education requirements: Bachelor's Degree as required by the specific opening.
• Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management, which must have included management of professional individual contributors.
• Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
• License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
